Uttaranchal drive to extend PF cover

By Our Staff Correspondent

DEHRA DUN, OCT. 13. The Uttaranchal unit of the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has launched an ambitious drive to cover all casual and contract workers in Government or Government-aided organisations in the State under the social security cover scheme.

Disclosing this here today, the Regional Provident Fund Commissioner, P.D. Sankhala, said all Government organisations had been asked to furnish a list of persons employed as casual or contract workers and immediately extend them the social security cover as provided under the Employees' Provident Fund Act.

The step had been taken after repeated complaints from trade unions and media reports that a large number of persons working as casual or contract workers in these State owned organisations had been denied all benefits under the social security rules of the Government.

If the employers do not comply with the request the EPFO will be forced to initiate legal action against them, Mr. Sankhala said.
