Zonal railways told to improve locomotive utilisation

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI, OCT. 13. The Ministry of Railways has directed the Zonal Railways to keep outage of locomotives 10 per cent above the target to ensure faster clearance and movement of rail traffic. This has been prompted by increase in traffic. They have been asked to improve locomotive utilisation by eliminatingavoidable detentions.

They have also been advised to pay attention to repair of other Zonal Railways' failed locomotives in the nearest shed on their system, to make available crew to avoid detention of running trains, to improve availability of wagons and to minimise detention at the terminals by encouraging users to adopt "Engine On Load system".
