THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, OCT. 13. The CPI(M) State secretariat has alleged a deliberate bid by the Government and a section of the media to link party leaders with the Kiliroor sex scandal with the ulterior motive of shielding the guilty. In a statement issued after its meeting here today, the party State secretariat termed the media reports in this regard as `baseless and immoral' and said this would only help the real culprits escape punishment. It also expressed serious reservations about the manner in which the investigation in the case was progressing and pointed out that the two main accused in the case had themsleves conceded that they had disappeared and suddenly reappeared with the connivance of the police. The CPI(M) leadership said the attempt was clearly to protect some `bigwigs' dear to the UDF leadership.
