VISAKHAPATNAM, OCT. 13. The Rajasekhara Reddy Government does not seem to be sincere in its efforts at holding talks with the naxalites, feels Achanta Lakshmana Rao, one of the main accused in the Parvathipuram naxalite conspiracy case of 1969. ``The People's War has openly announced that it is not ready to give up arms but the Government has not put forth any conditions to the naxalites. When that is the case, how can one expect the Government to be serious in solving the problem,'' he asked during a chat with The Hindu on Wednesday. The defeat of the former Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu, who had declared before the elections that the naxalites would be severely dealt with and the victory of Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, who preferred holding talks with them, were indications that the people were not in favour of suppression of the movement by force but only wanted an amicable solution to the issue, Mr. Lakshmana Rao said.
Seeks explanation
At least now, the Chief Minister, and the Home Minister, Jana Reddy, should come out with a frank explanation on what they intend to get out of the talks.
