Flow into TB dam declines

By Our Staff Reporter

KURNOOL, OCT. 13. The flow into the TB dam at Hospet declined to 941 cusecs, which is considered lowest flow this season. However, the level in the reservoir stood at 1630.35 ft holding 101.19 tmcft. On the other hand, the outflow from the reservoir to the canals was around 8,282 cusecs.

According to an estimate, the total realisation this year in the reservoir was expected to be around 170 to 175 tmcft. So far, 50 tmcft was utilised and over 100 tmcft was available in the reservoir.

The flow in the river at Sunkesula where the head sluice of KC canal is located, has been on the declining trend. However, the flow at Mantralayam in the upper reaches rose because of rain in the catchment area. The flood accounting for 7,141 cusecs is likely to touch Sukesula tomorrow.

`Nature kind'

Meanwhile, the irrigation officials said the nature was kind to KC canal so far. Though the overflow from the TB dam ceased long ago, the river was supporting the KC canal because of the rain in the catchment area below the TB dam.

The irrigation officials were under criticism for failure to impound 1.2 tmcft at Sunkesula barrage as the river was likely to recede any time. The storage as of now accounted for 500 mcft only. The level in the reservoir was 289.8 meters as against the FRL of 292 meters. It is said the officials were under pressure from contractors who were executing bridge works in the upper reaches not to impound water to the FRL. Also, doubts were cast over the quality of bund works, which might start leaking if the level increased.
