Cuddapah
By Our Staff Reporter
CUDDAPAH, OCT. 13. The CITU State Secretary, R. Sudha Bhaskar, alleged on Wednesday that the Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy Government was toeing the line of the Chandrababu Naidu Government. Addressing delegates on the second day of the CITU mahasabha here, he resented the Dr. Rajasekhara Reddy's assertion that volunteers under the `Velugu' project need not form a union and recalled that Mr. Naidu had advised education volunteers not to form a union. He charged the Government with trying to amend the Contract Labour Act to remove any safeguards for workers. Mr. Bhaskar decried the Finance Minister, K. Rosaiah's remarks when the CPI(M) MLA, M.A. Gafoor, apprised him on woes of contractual workers in 31 sectors. Ridiculing the YSR Government's claims of being pro-farmer, he criticised the termination of 7,000 qualified multi-purpose extension officers who assisted farmers.
`Pro-industrialist'
Charging the UPA Government with taking decisions that were pro-industrialists and against workers, the CITU secretary questioned the cut in the interest rate of Provident Fund of workers and being reluctant to tax stockbrokers. The Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, was not taking initiative to fulfil his assurance to scrap the Limited Time Employment Act enacted by the NDA Government, he alleged. The district APUWJ president, D. Srinath Reddy, in his welcome address, suggested setting up of agriculture and mineral-based industries in the backward Cuddapah district. The district CITU president, A. Raghunatha Reddy, vice-presidents -- B. Narayana, V.P. Bayyanna, D. Shyam and I.N. Subbamma -- and secretaries -- Ch. Chandrasekhar, A. Ramamohan and G. Chandrasekhar -- participated.
