Crop seed on 50 pc subsidy: Collector

By Our Staff Reporter

ANANTAPUR, OCT. 13. The district Collector, Y.V. Anuradha, has stated that the farmers who had suffered heavy damage to their groundnut crop due to stem necrosis and red-hairy caterpillar this season will be given seed of alternative crops like red gram and sunflower on 50 per cent subsidy.

Talking to newspersons here on Wednesday, she said that groundnut on about 1.5 lakh acres was damaged with stem necrosis virus and red-hair caterpillar. The farmers who had suffered total damage of crop would be given the alternative crop seed from October 15, she said.

Red gram seed ready

About 3,490 quintals of red gram seed and 1,719 quintals of sunflower seed was ready for supply in the district. Red gram seed would be given to the farmers belonging to Tadipatri, Putlur, Peddapappur, Yellanur, Narpala, Uravakonda, Vajrakarur, Vidapanakal, Guntakal, Beluguppa, Yadiki and Roddam mandals. Others would be supplied with sunflower seed.

Regarding the Food Assurance Scheme the Collector stated that 2,632 beneficiaries were identified for the scheme in 10 villages of the seven selected mandals by conducting gram sabha. Thirty-five works were also identified to provide wage employment works to them. The Government had declared 53 mandals drought-hit.

Fake passbooks

Meanwhile, the Joint Collector, Shashibhushan Kumar, said a special drive would be taken up in the district from October 25 to November 10 to weed out fake pattadar passbooks. All the passbooks in a village would be examined in gram sabha to find the fake passbooks.

The administration had already received complaints about fake passbooks from Kadiri, Rolla, Talupula, Penukonda, Narpala and Gandlapenta mandals. During the issuance of crop loans 13 fake passbooks were found in Penukonda and 15 in Taplupula. The passbook holders who would fail to turn up at gram sabhas for examination of their passbooks would be denied crop loans and other Government benefits in the future, the JC warned.

Besides, applications for new passbooks and transfer of title deeds would also be accepted during the special drive.
