MYSORE, OCT. 13 . The beauties that adorned the thoroughfares of the city long ago will roar into Mysore again as "guests" during the Dasara festivities. The Vintage Car Exhibition and Rally, organised as part of the nine-day festivities, will include at least two cars owned by eminent personalities of the city.

Organised in association with the Karnataka Vintage Classic Cars Club, the exhibition and rally will feature cars owned by Jayachamarajendra Wadiyar and the poet Kuvempu.

These vehicles are among the 41 cars that will come to the city along with nine vintage motorcycles. According to the secretary of the club, Ravi Prakash, Jayachamrajendra Wadiyar owned the 1947 Chevrolet, while Kuvempu owned the 1955 classic Studebaker Commander that would be on view.

Other cars that will be featured include a 1915 Ford Model T, and a 1930 Lanchester Straight 8 that was owned by Motilal Nehru.

Cars from the stables of famous carmakers, including Austin, Fiat, Mercedes, Cadillac, Morris, and Jaguar, would be displayed, Dr. Prakash said. The 1960 classic station wagon, Woody Traveller, would also be displayed along with a 1942-model Willys Jeep, Sunbeam, Dodge, and Citroen.

Dr. Prakash said that the speciality of these cars was that they were made to order, and carried the aesthetic taste and sense of the erstwhile maharajas.

Cars that once belonged to the ruling families of Udaipur, Rajkot, Kutch, Idher, Balengir, and Travancore would also be a part of the rally, he added.

He also said that the cars that would be displayed were produced between 1915 and 1970, and belonged to the vintage and classic eras in automobile classification.

All the vintage cars had been restored to the original specifications of the manufacturer. He said that among the nine motorcycles taking part in the rally, the 1935 model BSA Empire Star was the oldest.

These cars would be on display at the Mysore Palace premises. A brochure with information on the exhibits would be released.

The exhibition will be open for the public between October 17 and October 22, and the Vintage Car Rally would precede the Jumboo Savari on October 23.
