HASSAN, OCT. 13. The Minister for Public Works and Energy, H.D. Revanna, today blamed the "inaction'' of the Hassan district police for Tuesday's incident at Dyapalapura. He supported the decision of the Chief Minister, N. Dharam Singh, to order a judicial inquiry. Mr. Revanna, who is the Minister in charge of Hassan district, visited Dyapalapura along with the Director-General and Inspector General of Police, S.N. Borkar. He complimented the Sub-Inspector of Hassan Rural Police Station, Balachandra Nayak, for saving the lives of a woman and four children. He said he could not understand why there was a delay on the part of the police in sending reinforcements to Dyapalapura. He had learnt from the senior officers in the Police Department that the mob had started setting houses on fire in the morning, and the reinforcement reached the place only after two hours. He said he had brought it to the notice of Mr. Dharam Singh.
Deve Gowda's visit
Mr. Revanna said he had visited Dyapalapura and spoken to the villagers. H.D. Deve Gowda, Hassan MP and former Prime Minister, would visit Dyapalapura on Thursday. Senior officials including the Development Commissioner, Chiranjeevi Singh, would also visit the village, he added. The Minister said the Chief Minister had directed the Deputy Commissioner to take up the rehabilitation of those displaced.
Govt. blamed
The State unit president of the Janata Dal (United), B. Somashekar, today held the coalition government responsible for Tuesday's incident at Dyapalapura. Mr. Somashekar visited Dyapalapura along with party leaders.
