NEW DELHI, OCT 13. A majority of the office bearers of the Nationalist Congress Party in Madhya Pradesh today joined the Samata Party, led by the former Member of Parliament, Brahmanand Mandal. The vice-president of the Madhya Pradesh unit, Harvansh Lal Avasthi, and general secretaries Surendra Sharma, Indu Sharma, Vijay Singh Thakur and Brijmohan Saxena, along with seven State-level office bearers and 20 district presidents joined the party here. The chairman of the parliamentary board, Jaipal Singh, had earlier resigned and joined the Congress. Mr. Mandal today nominated Darshan Singh Rathor as president of the Madhya Pradesh Samata Party. "We have joined the Samata Party because we identify with the policies of this party which is struggling for farmers, Dalits and the poor sections of the society. This party has the potential to form a Third Front against capitalist forces where several socialists have failed," said Jagdish Singh Parmar at a press conference here. He said the move would strengthen the party and brighten its chances in the forthcoming municipal elections in Madhya Pradesh. Later, Mr. Mandal nominated the former Bihar Minister, Naval Kishore Sahi, as the national vice-president of the party and the former MLA, Rijhan Ram Paswan, as the chief of the National Dalit Samata. Narandra Pratap Singh was nominated the working president of the National Yuva Samata Party. Indu Sharma will be the head of the Mahila Samata in Madhya Pradesh, while S.S. Tomar will lead the Kisan Samata in the State.
