Rahul flies over Rae Bareli

RAE BARELI, OCT. 13. Away from the heat and dust of the Maharashtra Assembly elections and the bypolls in Uttar Pradesh, the Congress MP, Rahul Gandhi, took time off to fly a small trainer aircraft here today.

His father and former Prime Minister, Rajiv Gandhi, and his uncle, Sanjay Gandhi, were accomplished pilots. While Rajiv was a pilot with the Indian Airlines, Sanjay was an amateur flier.

Congress sources said Rahul went to the Indira Gandhi Udyan Academy and took control of a small piston-engine aircraft. He is reported to have been accompanied by a trained pilot.

During his 45-minutes in the air, Rahul flew over pockets of Rae Bareli, the parliamentary constituency of his mother and party president, Sonia Gandhi, and Munshiganj — a part of his constituency, Amethi. After landing, Rahul took to the roads to continue his interaction with the people of Amethi.
