BELLARY, OCT. 13. I.N. Kalburgi, well-known Hindustani classical (instrumental) musician and founder of Sharada Sangeet Vidyalaya, died at his residence on Tuesday following a brief illness. He was 68. Hailing from a family of musicians in Gadag, Kalburgi settled in Bellary. He was instrumental in propagating classical music in this part of the State through his institution for over three decades. Kalburgi was conferred with the "Kalashree" Award instituted by the Karnataka Sangeet-Natak Academy. He is survived by nine sons and a daughter. Almost all his children including Mohan Kalburgi, violin exponent, and Jagannath Kalburgi, tabla artiste, are musicians and are continuing their family tradition.
