Tejasvi at the helm

NEW DELHI, OCT. 13. Anshul Gupta's shocking omission marked the announcement of the Delhi under-15 team to be led by Tejasvi Prasad Yadav in the Polly Umrigar Trophy to be held later this month.

Gupta had scored three hundreds in a row in the selection tournament conducted by the Delhi and District Cricket Tournament but could not win the confidence of the selectors. Another consistent performer, all-rounder Shubham Sharma, also failed to make it to the team despite excelling in the age-group tournaments.

Tejasvi, son of Union Railways Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, earned his place on merit but in keeping with the system, the selection of some players has not been received well. The most jarring being the selection of left-arm spinner Harjinder Singh, despite the inclusion of Manan Sharma, also a left-arm spinner. Also missing is promising wicketkeeper Wasim Raja, who was in the team last year.

The team: Tejasvi Yadav (Captain), Rahul Bhardwaj, Vivek Mishra, Varun Sood, Shobhit Kaushik, Yogesh Nagar, Manan Sharma, Naman Khanna, Karan Khanna, Saurabh Passi, Anuj Tyagi, Anurag Tyagi, Pradeep Sangwan, Varun Bhardwaj, Harjinder Singh and Vaibhav Rawal.
