Rain likely

CHENNAI, OCT. 13. There will be one or two showers or thundershowers in some areas during forenoon on Thursday. The maximum and minimum temperatures will be around 32 degrees Celsius and 25 degrees Celsius.

On Wednesday, Nungambakkam registered a maximum of 32.5 degrees and a minimum of 24.7 degrees Celsius. The humidity was 90 per cent. Meenambakkam recorded a maximum of 31.4 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 25.2 degrees Celsius. The humidity was 93 per cent.

Nungambakkam received 5.2 mm of rain, while Meenambakkam received 31.8 mm rain.

Power shutdown

Power supply will be suspended between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. in C.P. Koil Street, Oil Mangar Street, Subedar Hussain Street and Nainiappa Maistry Street of T.V. Pet area on Friday due to maintenance works.

Products

Two city-based voluntary agencies, Spastics Society of Tamil Nadu and Mukthi that work with people with different types of disabilities, will on Thursday feature products made by the disabled persons at the on-going Helping Hands Mela (venue: Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation premises on Radhakrishnan Salai, Mylapore - 10 a.m to 4 p.m).

There would be a sale of products such as greeting cards, stationery items, notelets, envelopes and paper plates made by physically challenged persons.

Posters seeking to create awareness of different disabilities and civic issues would also be on display.

Prizes distributed

Gandhi Jayanthi celebrations were held at the Valluvar Gurukulam in West Tambaram. G.K. Vasan, president, Tamil Nadu Congress Committee, and D. Sudarshan, MLA, took part and distributed prizes to winners of essay writing and oratorical competition. D.K. Srinivasan, Correspondent of the school, welcomed the gathering.
