MANGALORE, OCT. 13. The Surathkal Police have said that an illicit liquor manufacturing unit at a house at Subashith Nagar was raided late on Tuesday and machinery and vehicles used to transport liquor were seized. A person was arrested in this connection. The police are on the lookout for three others, including the main accused, Clifford D'Souza of Ullal, who had rented the house, located barely half a kilometre from the Surathkal police station. The arrested person was John D'Souza (35), resident of Jokatte, a jeep driver. A jeep and a motorcycle were seized.
Suicide
Lokanath (35) of Ajjavara Palathadka in Sullia Police Station limits reportedly committed suicide. Police said the victim was said to be suffering from mental illness. He attempted to hang himself from a beam used to draw water from the well. However, the beam broke and the victim fell into the well, drowning himself in the process. Investigation is on.
