Commissioner to call on families of colleagues

VIJAYAWADA, OCT. 13. In connection with the `Police Commemoration Day' on October 21, the city Police Department is conducting elocution, essay writing and painting competitions for students as well as the department's personnel.

A painting competition for schoolchildren on the theme `Would you like to join the police?' was conducted on Wednesday.

This would be followed by an elocution competition on the same theme on Thursday and an elocution competition for the department personnel on `Police - political leaders relation in a democracy' and `Where are the police going wrong' on October 15.

Awards

The city Police Commissioner will give away the awards to winners on October 21.

He would visit the houses of the police personnel and interact with their family members to get a first hand information about the problems faced by them.

The amount raised through the sale of Police Commemoration Day stamps would also be distributed among the families of police personnel who died in harness to mark the occasion, according to a press release.
