VIJAYAWADA, OCT. 13. The Vijayawada city police are making elaborate arrangements for the upcoming Devi Navaratri festival culminating in Vijayadasami. Though the festival comes to an end on October 22, devotees who have taken "Bhavani Deeksha" will be visiting the shrine of Sri Kanakadurga temple on October 23 and 24. Keeping the rush of devotees in view, the city police is setting up an outpost near the temple with adequate staff. As many as 10 Circle Inspectors, 22 Sub-Inspectors, 36 ASIs, 26 Head Constables and 230 Constables, 28 woman Constables, 316 Home Guards, and nine sections of Armed-Reserve Constables would be deployed for security arrangements for the nine days during the Dasara festival.

Bandobust arrangements are being made on the banks of the Krishna where the devout take holy bath. Closed-circuit televisions are being arranged to keep watch on eve-teasers and pickpockets. Necessary barricading has been made to ensure queue system for the devotees to have the holy darshan of the goddess. The police would also keep a watch at vulnerable points like Pandit Nehru Bus Station, Kothagullu, V.G. Chowk, Kothapet and Vinayaka temple, etc.
Facilities
Security arrangements are being made at railway booking counters, bus station, and also for Teppotsavam. Public address system has been installed at the venues where cultural programmes would be held, inside and outside the temple premises, temple tollgate and Durga Ghat. Ambulance, toilets and drinking water would be made available for the devotees. As many as four mini buses are being organised for VIPs and they would be allowed to take only those vehicles to reach the temple. Additional security arrangements would be made on the day of "Moola nakshatram" in view of the expected increase in rush. Three Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) would monitor the arrangements continuously.
