HYDERABAD, OCT. 13. The Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen MP, Asaduddin Owaisi, and his followers allegedly beat up a Congress worker, Wasiullah Khan, near the Mallepally mosque on Wednesday during the bypoll to the Asifnagar Assembly constituency. A former MIM activist, Khan had recently joined the Congress. The MP and the Chandrayanagutta MLA, Akbaruddin Owaisi, were passing by the Masjid when they noticed a Congress party flag atop Khan's house. An irate MP and his followers reportedly slapped Khan, who fled the spot. The attackers also entered Khan's house to look for him. The Habeebnagar police registered a case under sections 323, 448 and 506 of IPC following a complaint lodged by Khan's wife, Saleha Fatima.
Charge against Nagender
The Congress nominee, D. Nagender, nabbed a resident of Parthiwada, Keshav, accusing the latter of disbursing money to lure voters near Karachi Bakery in Begumbazar. A counter case was also registered against Mr. Nagender after Keshav charged the former with attacking him. A jeep that was parked on the roadside in Banjara Hills was seized and its driver, Gopal, taken into custody. While 48 persons were taken into preventive custody on Wednesday, nearly 325 history-sheeters were rounded up on Tuesday night.
