MADURAI, OCT.13. The Commissioner, A. Karthik, on Tuesday said stormwater drainages would be desilted in the city. Participating in a public grievance day meeting for the people of the east zone held here, Mr. Karthik, said he had received a lot of representations from the residents on stagnating rainwater on the city roads. Sand on roadsides blocked the rainwater to drain into the stormwater drainages and damaged the roads, he said and directed the city engineer to remove the sand and garbage inside the drainages. Following requests made by residents of ward No. 52, the Commissioner said the roads dug for constructing underground drainages would be relaid. The Mayor received 59 petitions seeking action to improve civic facilities. The Deputy Mayor, D. Chinnasamy, the leader of opposition in the Corporation council, S.D. Jeyabalan, the zonal chairmen, several councillors and officials participated in the meeting.
