Motor staff warn of stir

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, OCT. 13 The Kerala State Private Motor Thozilali Federation (AITUC) has urged the Chief Minister, Oommen Chandy, to take stringent action against the policemen allegedly involved in the torture of an autorickshaw driver, Satheeshkumar. In a press note issued here today, the federation State secretary, Pattom Sasidharan, warned that motor employees in the district would launch an agitation if the Government ignored their demand.

Film society

awards

Devika Raj of Sarvodaya Vidyalaya has won the first place in the film essay competition conducted by the Kerala Children's Film Society. The prize comprises a cash award of Rs.5,000 and a citation. M.S. Akhila Nair of the Holy Angels Convent and N.S. Athira of Cotton Hill School bagged the second and third prizes respectively. The prizes will be given away at a function to be held here shortly, a press note issued by the society said.

Study aids distributed

The Nanma Social Circle of the State Bank of Travancore, Chala, distributed study materials to the students of the Government Tamil UP school, Chala. The Assistant General Manager of the bank, A. Krishna Iyer, handed over the materials at a function held here on Tuesday.

Fined

The owners of Rajan Motors and Karthika Transport, M.V. Balachandra Kurup and Murali, were fined Rs. 2,250 and Rs. 1,500 respectively by the Attingal Judicial First Class Magistrate court after they were found guilty of not keeping the registers of employees as per the Motor Transport Workers Act. The order was passed on the case filed against them by the Inspector of Agricultural Labour, T.L. Thankamani, a Government press release said.

Voter's list

The last date for including names in the voter's list has been extended to October 30. Applications for inclusion of names in the voter's list could be got from the Postal Department, Village and Taluk offices, an official release said.
