Kalady centre emerges champions

THE KALADY centre of the Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit walked away with the overall championship at the youth festival, Aarpu-04 that concluded at the Kalady campus of the university on Wednesday.

The Kalady centre won 219 points to bag the title. The Thrissur centre of the University emerged runners-up in the event with 82 points. Payanoor centre was placed third in the point tally, winning 57 points.

A.B. Sreedas of Kalady centre won the Kalapratibha title. He won 15 points. Mr. Sreedas bagged prizes in Aksharaslokam (Malayalam and Sanskrit) and Recitation (Sanskrit). Anju S. Nair of Kalady centre was adjudged Kalatilakom of the festival. She won prizes in events including Monoact and Kathaprasangam.

Students of the Koyilandi centre won the first prize in the drama competition (Sanskrit and English). The Kalady centre won the first prize in the Malayalam section.

I. R. Lenin of Thrissur centre won the first prize in collage competition. P.V. Manoj of Kalady centre bagged the second prize.

In clay modelling, C. R. Prasad of Thrissur centre bagged the first prize. P. Dhanya of Kalady centre won the second prize.

K. V. Vijeesh of Kalady centre won the first prize in cartoon. Biju Vannanchola of Tirur centre won the second prize.

Second edition

THE SECOND edition of the campus festival, Inspire organised by the Association of Computer Engineering Students (ACES) at the School of Engineering, Cochin University of Science and Technology was held in Kochi from October 8 to 10.

The festival had a mix of competitions aimed at testing the technical and managerial skill of the participants. Subin Krishnan of Model Engineering College, Thrikakkara won the first prize in web designing contest.

Benzi K. Ahmed and Nishant George of the Rajagiri Institute of Science and Technology won the first prize in paper presentation competition. Papers on various technological advancements like turbo codes; fractal image compression and quantum algorithms and entanglement theory were presented on the occasion.

Swaroop Madhavan, Nithin Gregory and Arun Surendran of Department of Ship Technology, Cochin University; won the prize in dumb charades. Hemant Tyagi of School of Engineering bagged the prize in the complete professional contest.

Special moment

IT WAS a special moment for the post-graduate students of the 2001-2003 batch of the Rajagiri College of Social Sciences, Kalamassery, on Saturday as they were awarded the degrees at the graduation ceremony held at Rajagiri valley, Kakkanad. The Director of the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), V.S. Prasad, was the chief guest on the occasion.

He said that a model institution would have motivated students, committed teachers, good governance and an efficient administrative system. Dr. Prasad said that the council would encourage introduction of best practices for improving the academic excellence of educational institutions in the country.

Representatives of Sevashram, Angamaly and WIN centre at Eramalloor who were present on the occasion received the Fr. Jose Alex award instituted by the staff members and alumni of the Rajagiri College of Social Sciences, Kalamassery for outstanding contribution in the field of social work. The award carries a cash prize of Rs. 50,000 and a citation.
