Fire at KSEB sub-station

KOCHI, OCT. 13. A fire broke out at the 110 KV electrical sub-station of the KSEB at Kaloor around 5 p.m. today. None was injured, sources said.

Two circuit breakers and six panel boards were destroyed in the fire. It took almost two hours to put out the fire. Five fire tenders were engaged in the operation. The fire had occurred from sparks that emanated while tripping, according to sources.

Shifted

The venue of the mass contact programme of the Chief Minister, Oommen Chandy, slated to be held on October 19 at the Collectorate, Kakkanad has been shifted to the Ernakulam Town Hall.

Walkout

Members belonging to the Opposition staged a walkout from the Perumbavur Municipal council meeting held today. They demanded that the chairman, N.C.Mohanan, resign as he had lost majority in the Council.

Knocked down

An inspector of the Commercial Sales Tax wing, T. Joy (41), was knocked down by a jeep in front of the Saritha theatre in the city tonight. He was supervising the inspection of materials in the jeep, when the owner of the vehicle drove off the vehicle, knocking the inspector down. The inspector has been admitted to the Medical Trust Hospital with injuries.
