Bank staffer gets threat calls

An employee of UCO Bank, Prakash Pande, lodged a complaint with the Kachiguda police on Tuesday stating that he had been receiving threatening letters and phone calls in the name of People's War naxalites demanding money. The complainant suspected the possible involvement of one of his colleagues behind the threatening letters and phone calls.

Housewife duped

Two unidentified youngsters escaped with a gold chain belonging to a housewife, B. Suguna, by diverting her attention when she went to a medical shop in Nampally on Tuesday. The duo approached her stating that they were distributing divine kumkum and pasupsu (vermilion and turmeric) powder.

They persuaded Suguna to remove her gold chain saying that they would give the divine powder along with the chain. The youths then wrapped the chain and some powder in a paper and gave it back to her. Suguna opened the packet after the duo left only to find some stones inside, the Nampally police said.

House burgled

Thieves broke into a house at Sardar Bagh in Jyothinagar of Langer Houz and took away property including gold ornaments and electronic goods worth over Rs. 1 lakh. The house owner, Syeda Noor Unnisa, had gone to her parents' house on October 3. She returned home on Tuesday only to find the property stolen, the Langer Houz police said.
