Mainly clears sky forecast

NEW DELHI OCT. 13. Delhiites will wake up to a chilly morning on Thursday. The weatherman has forecast mainly clear sky during the day with maximum and minimum temperatures remaining around 30 and 18 degree Celsius respectively.

On Wednesday, Safdarjung recorded a maximum temperature of 28.6 and a minimum temperature of 16.9 degree Celsius respectively, while Palam recorded a maximum temperature of 27.7 and minimum temperature of 17.5 degree Celsius respectively.

The maximum relative humidity at Safdarjung stood at 90 per cent and the minimum 33 per cent. Palam recorded a maximum humidity of 92 per cent and a minimum of 37 per cent.

Delegation meets PM

NEW DELHI OCT. 13. A group of social activists belonging to the Human Rights Law Network, the Nivara Hakk Welfare Centre and other non-government organisations today met the Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, and the Congress President, Sonia Gandhi, demanding that the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government ensure that the urban poor were not forcibly evicted and that adequate housing arrangements were made for them near the place of occupation and livelihood.

Drawing the attention of the two leaders towards the recent eviction drive carried out by the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) in its area, the activists, led by actress-turned-politician, Shabana Azmi, urged them to intervene to ensure that the civic body does not demolish women's shelter homes in the Capital.

Three murders

NEW DELHI OCT. 13. Three persons were found dead in as many places in the Capital on Wednesday. The body of a 30-year-old computer diploma holder, identified as Ajay, was found in a locked flat at Dwarka in South-West Delhi. According to the police, the body was discovered in the sixth floor flat of Him Apartments in Dwarka after the residents complained of foul smell emanating from it. The body had apparently been lying there for the past five days, the police said. In South Delhi, the body of a taxi driver, identified as Shiv Kumar, was found in a park at Hauz Khas Enclave early today. There were stab wounds on the body. A 25-year-old man, who had come from Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh to meet somebody at Uttam Nagar in West Delhi two days ago, was today found dead in a park at Mongolpuri in North-West Delhi.

The assailant had stabbed the victim to death.

Accused held

NEW DELHI OCT. 13. The main accused in a kidnapping case and two of his associates have been arrested by the South Delhi police for allegedly threatening the victim and preventing him from deposing in court.

According to the police, a complaint was received by Malviya Nagar police station that Praveen alias Kukki, the main accused in the kidnapping of a businessman, was threatening to eliminate the victim if he went ahead with his deposition in the case.

Two arrested

NEW DELHI OCT. 13. Two persons have been arrested from different parts of North Delhi for allegedly selling illegal liquor and narcotic substances.

Manoj, a resident of Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh, was arrested from Timarpur on Tuesday night while he was carrying 12 bottles and 30 quarters of illegal liquor in his possession. In another case, the Lahori Gate police arrested one Ramesh, a resident of Khari Bawli, when he was allegedly trying to dispose of 6.5 kg of ganja.
