He was talking to mediapersons shortly after laying the foundation stone of the 600 MW Deen Bandhu Sir Chhotu Ram Thermal Power Plant at Yamunanagar.
He said that the merger of the HVP with the Congress was imminent as the two parties had contested the recent Rajya Sabha elections jointly. Moreover his assertion that the HVP was the `B' team of the Congress had now been proved.
The Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) chief asserted that his party was capable of fighting the ensuing Assembly elections on its own. However, a decision about "alliance'' with any other party except the Congress would only be taken after the announcement of the polls. He further commented that with the HVP joining the Congress, the infighting in the latter would further increase.
Replying to another question, he charged that the BJP had no base and had lost its credibility among the people of the State. Referring to the statements of BJP leaders that they were not interested in an alliance with the INLD, he asked them whether any INLD leader had even approached them for this purpose.
