Grading system for SSLC to stay

By Our Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, OCT. 14 . The Education Minister, E.T. Mohammed Basheer, today ruled out any question of the Government retracting from its decision to implement grading system for the SSLC examination this year.

It would, however, conduct more studies and hold further discussions with all concerned to fine-tune the grading system before the next academic year.

The Minister, who held discussions with the representatives of school teachers' organisations on various issues relating to school education, said that the Government proposed to launch an awareness campaign to remove the doubts and apprehensions of the teachers, students and their parents about the grading system.

He said the State would seek a change in the Sarva Sikshya Abhiyan project to suit the conditions prevailing in various States.

He would soon write to the Human Resource Development Minister seeking such a move.

Last date extended

He said the last date for submitting birth certificates for school admissions had been extended to December 31.

With regard to the problems of high school and higher secondary school teachers, the Government would try to bring about a consensus on all possible issues.
