Action plan for industrial progress sought

By Our Staff Reporter

CUDDAPAH, OCT. 14. The CITU district general secretary, N. Ravisankar Reddy, on Thursday, demanded an announcement from the Government of a comprehensive action plan for achieving industrial progress and revival of closed industrial units in Cuddapah district.

Review urged

Addressing a press conference here, he urged the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, to expeditiously revive the Cuddapah Cooperative Sugars Ltd. at Chennur, Proddatur Milk Foods factory and the milk factory at Porumamilla, in tune with his electoral promise.

Industrial progress of the district was vital to generate employment for the youth, he said.

Mr. Reddy demanded steps to execute the Galeru Nagari, Handri Neeva and Jharikona irrigation projects.

Meet concludes

The two-day CITU mahasabha which concluded on Wednesday, decried the double-standards of the Telugu Desam Party leaders on G.O. 107 issued to maintain the MDDL of 854 ft. in Srisailam reservoir, he said.

Contrary to the promise to generate more employment, the Government terminated the services of MPEOs and cooperative employees, he alleged.

The CITU leader demanded a comprehensive legislation to safeguard the interests of unorganised workers, and give up moves to remove anganwadi and contractual workers.

The mahasabha also opposed the hike in foreign direction investment in insurance and telecom sectors and levy of service tax, he said.

The Central and State Governments were pursuing the ill-motivated reforms, he alleged.

Privatisation, disinvestment in public sector undertakings, lopsided pension scheme and jeopardising the interests of contractual workers were continuing unabated, Mr. Ravisankar Reddy expressed concern and said agitations would be inevitable.
