NEW DELHI, OCT. 14. The Union Cabinet has approved the creation of a post of Adviser for Manipur Affairs in the Ministry of Home Affairs. Briefing reporters on the Cabinet decision, the Finance Minister, P. Chidambaram, said the post would be in the grade of Additional Secretary. The move was aimed at taking appropriate decision expeditiously with a view to improving the law and order situation and containing insurgency. Mr. Chidambaram said the officer would be someone who belongs to the State. The Government's move to have one more Additional Secretary, specially dealing with Manipur Affairs, comes after the Home Minister Shivraj Patil's talks last month with those heading the three-month-old agitation against the controversial Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) failed.
