By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD, OCT. 14. About 45 passengers had a miraculous escape when an RTC bus of the Utnoor depot they were travelling in slid down the bridge near Alwal Rythu Bazar and fell on its side after hitting the compound wall of a building on Thursday. Eight passengers who suffered bruises were treated at a nearby hospital and discharged.

While police suspect that the bus driver Suresh Chari could have dozed off at the wheel leading to the accident, the latter maintained that he lost control of the vehicle while trying to avoid hitting a scooterist who was coming from the opposite direction. The packed bus was coming from Karimnagar and reached the bridge around 5 a.m.

The bus ran over a couple of rock pillars on the left, slid down, hit Sai Sadan Apartments' compound wall and fell on its side. "We heard a big thud and saw passengers screaming in the darkness," said an occupant of the building, M. Narender Reddy, who rescued the passengers with the help of some local people.
