EPI turns the corner

NEW DELHI OCT.14. After a gap of 26 years, Engineering Projects (India) Ltd. (EPI) has made a dividend payment to the Union Government for the year 2003-04. The cheque -- for Rs. 3.53 crores -- was handed over to the Secretary, Heavy Industries, Adarsh Kishore, by Saleem Hamid, CMD of EPI, here today.

EPI is a public enterprise under the Central Department of Heavy Industry. Financial restructuring of the company was approved three years ago in May 2001, whereafter its net worth turned positive and it has been earning net profit since.

Record dividend by BHEL

NEW DELHI OCT. 14. Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has paid an all-time high equity dividend of 60 per cent for 2003-04. This includes an interim dividend of 30 per cent paid earlier in the year. With this, BHEL has maintained its track record of paying dividends uninterruptedly for the last 28 years.

The dividend cheque for Rs. 49.73 crores was presented to the Union Minister for Heavy Industry and Public Enterprises, Santosh Mohan Dev, by A.K. Puri, CMD of BHEL, here today.

Cancer awareness seminar

NEW DELHI OCT. 14. The National Cadet Corps (NCC) in association with Cancer Care India (CACI) organised a seminar and workshop on Wednesday to spread awareness about the disease. The CACI president, Harmala Gupta; its general secretary, P.K.Ghosh; senior consultant of Rockland Hospital, R.Ranga Rao, and other eminent oncologists attended the seminar. CACI and NCC have jointly conducted 11 cancer awareness programmes in the past few months.

Sheila visits crafts fair

NEW DELHI OCT. 14. The Delhi Chief Minister, Sheila Dikshit visited the Indian Handicrafts and Gifts Fair (IHGF) 2004 and Indian Floorings and Furnishings Textiles Expo 2004 (IFFTEX) at Pragati Maidan here on Wednesday

Over 1,550 exhibitors from the handicrafts and 370 from the textiles sector are taking part in the fair organised by Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts.

IHGF is held twice a year while IFFTEX is being organised for the first time to attract buyers from various countries. Several measures are underway including aggressive international marketing, opening of showrooms and warehouses in the United States and Europe to enhance global market share in this segment.

Science symposium organised

NEW DELHI OCT. 14. Vishwa Bharati Public Shool in Noida hosted a unique science symposium and computer talent hunt earlier this week to highlight the significance of modern technology. Eighteen schools from Delhi and Noida participated in the inter-school competition in both senior and junior categories. The Founder Dean of the School of Bio-technology in Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, K.Kannan inaugurated the event.

The participants exhibited working models and research- based projects on various topics like pollution, biotechnology and natural science. The overall trophy was bagged by Amity International School and A.P.J.School won the runners up prize.
