Vinay outplays Karun

NEW DELHI, OCT. 14. Top-seeded Vinay Kamineni of Andhra Pradesh outplayed the 14th seeded Karun Uday Singh 6-1, 6-0 in the boys' semifinals of the DSCL National mini-junior tennis championship at the DLTA Complex here on Thursday.

Vinay, a trainee of coach Vishwanath Gopi from Visakhapatnam, played a consistent game, serving and stroking fluently, even as Karun struggled to strike a rhythm.

Poojashree captured the doubles crown with Sweta Kumari Solanki, as the second-seeded duo dismissed the top-seeded Andhra pair of Prerna Mythry and Sushruta Reddy.

The boys' doubles title went to Vikram Reddy and Abhijeet Tiwari.

The results:

Boys under-14 (semifinals): Vinay Kamineni bt Karun Uday Singh 6-1, 6-0; Sriram Balaji bt Vijayant Malik 7-5, 6-4.

Doubles (final): B. Vikram Reddy and Abhijeet Tiwari bt Vijayant Malik and Shiva Sangwan 6-2, 7-6 (4).

Girls' under-14 (semifinals): G. S. Janaki Rao bt Shahin Ansari 6-2, 6-3; Poojashree Venkatesh bt Daniella Jones 6-0, 6-0.

Doubles (final): Sweta Kumari Solanki and Poojashree Venkatesh bt Prerna Mythry and Sushruta Reddy 6-2, 6-0.
