St. Ephremes, Mount Carmel take titles

KURIANAD, OCT. 14. St. Ephremes HSS, Mannanam staved off a stiff challenge from St. Joseph's HSS, Pulinkunnam 81-80 and lifted the boys' title in the sixth St. Anne's Trophy all-Kerala inter-school basketball tournament at the St. Anne's HSS courts here on Thursday.

In the girls' section too, the race for the title was a close affair, with Mount Carmel HSS, Kottayam edging out Government Brennan HSS, Thalassery, 60-58.

Jose V. Kurian, Assistant Commandant, SAP, who was the chief guest, gave away the prizes.

Boys (final): St. Ephremes HSS, Mannanam 81 (Nirmal K. Mathew 27, Albin Baby 19, Tinso Varghese 16) bt St. Joseph's HSS, Pulinkunnam 80 (R.G. Venkidesh 31, Eudrick Pereira 16, Rahul Krishnan 13, Thomas Joseph 12). Semifinals: St. Ephremes 71 (Vinoop 31, Nirmal 20, Dhanush 11) bt G.V. Raja Sports School, Thiruvananthapuram 69 (Vishnu 69, Robin 12); St. Joseph's 82 (Kevin 17, Eudrick 17) bt Government Model HSS, Kozhikode 80 (Vimal 12, Elbin 10).

Girls (final): Mount Carmel HSS, Kottayam 60 (K.S. Anu 21) bt Government Brennan HSS, Thalassery 58 (Anu Mathew 14, M.J. Lija 10). Semifinals: Government Brennan HSS 76 (Rehsma 25, Smitha 15, Lija 12) bt S.N. Trust HSS, Kollam 66 (Rosmy 16, Jerry Jose 14, Sinimol 14).
