HYDERABAD, OCT. 14. In a major blow to the Telangana Rashtra Samithi, six ZPTC members of Karminagar district along with their ZP chairman, K.V.Rajeshswara Rao, joined the Congress here on Thursday. Defending their move, they told reporters that the opportunistic policies of the TRS president, K.Chandrasekhara Rao, were responsible for their crossover. Mr.Rajeshwara Rao, along with Rinda Devi, Suman Babu, Raji Redy, Shakuntala Rajam, Rena and Jaya Kumar (all ZPTCs) accompanied by MLAs J.Ratnakar Rao and T.Jeevan Reddy and 16 Congress ZPTC members came to the PCC headquarters in the evening. The CWC member, G.Venkataswamy, the Endowments Minister, M. Satyanarayana Rao, and the APCC secretary, T. Sammi Reddy, received them.
Thank Congress leaders
They later met the Chief Minister to thank him and other Congress leaders for admitting them into the party fold. He assured Dr.Reddy that his team would work for the welfare of the people. Addressing a press conference later, the ZP functionaries said that the TRS leadership was not interested in achieving its goals and objectives but was clinging to power desperately. Our Karimnagar Staff Reporter writes: Senior Congress leader and Peddapalli MP, G Venkatswamy, who was instrumental in forging an alliance with the TRS during the elections, was involved in facilitating the crossover of the TRS leaders in the district into the Congress. The TRS had emerged as a strong force in the district within a short span after its advent in April 2001. During the local bodies elections which were held in August 2001, the party had secured the Zilla Parishad chairman post by winning 27 ZPTC member posts. Later, the party had secured a sizeable number of sarpanch posts also. The party further consolidated its position by winning five Assembly seats and the Karimnagar Parliament seat, returning the TRS president, K Chandrashekhar Rao, with a record margin.
