New President for Maldivian Special Majlis

COLOMBO, OCT. 14. The Maldivian Special Majlis (Constituent Assembly) today elected a new President and Vice-President, formally commencing the atoll-nation's moves to bring in constitutional reforms. According to the Chief Government spokesperson, a former Minister, Abbas Ibrahim was elected the President and Vice-Chairman of the Maldives Law Commission and Shaheen Hameed the Vice-President of the Special Majlis.
