HYDERABAD, OCT. 14. An Assistant Reserve Sub-Inspector, M. Ramesh Rao (56), committed suicide by shooting himself in the abdomen with his carbine early on Thursday at the Dabeerpura police station barracks. Mr. Rao, belonging to the first battallion of the Andhra Pradesh Special Police (APSP) was attached to a special contingent posted at Dabeerpura. He returned to the barracks around midnight after performing bandobust duty. Three other policemen were sleeping in the barracks. "I woke up to the sound of gun shots around 3 a.m. and saw Mr. Rao lying in a pool of blood with the firearm beside him," said the APSP constable, Satyanarayana, who was also in the barracks. Mr. Rao was rushed to the Osmania General Hospital where he was declared brought dead.
Reasons unclear
Though the reasons for the suicide are not yet known, a couple of sentences purportedly written by Mr. Rao in his diary stated that no one was responsible for his death. He is survived by wife, three daughters and two sons.
