Minister pacifies villagers of Bodanam

By Our Staff Reporter

GUNTUR, OCT. 14. The Minister for Cooperation, Kanna Lakshmi Narayana, visited Bodanam village in Bellamkonda mandal in Guntur district on Thursday to pacify villagers who were agitated over the compensation package and were demanding land instead of money.

The Minister apprised them of the Rs.156-crore relief and rehabilitation package announced by the Government on Wednesday ahead of the proposed bhoomipuja by the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, on Friday. He assured them of the best possible compensation amount and a house for each family in the rehabilitation colony.

He also said that under the relief and rehabilitation package, displaced persons would be provided support and loans under various schemes for them to begin some revenue-generating activity.

Their cattle and sheep would also be taken care of, he announced. Dr. Reddy was for the welfare of farmers and the backward classes and it was for the first time that a package was being announced well in advance.
