Three held on charge of violating Arms Act

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, OCT. 14 . The police have arrested three persons wanted in several cases, including assault and violation of the Arms Act, in the city.

The Circle Inspector (Thampanoor), E. Sherifudeen, said Visakh (30), "Adivasi" Rajesh (29) and Vineeth (27) were arrested from near the New Theatre in the early hours of Thursday. The CI said at the time of the arrest Rajesh was found to be carrying a sword on his person. They were produced before the Judicial First Class Magistrate Court and remanded to 14 days in judicial custody.

Wanted persons held

The police have arrested two persons in connection with a gang feud at Mathravila colony near Kuravankonam.

The Circle Inspector (Peroorkada), M. Radhakrishnan, said "Mathravila" Anu and "Muttada" Nitin headed two separate gangs fighting for supremacy in the area. Both the "gang leaders" had been injured in a fight near the colony early this week.

They had absconded from the Medical College Hospital when the police came in search of them.

Mr. Radhakrishnan said the accused were arrested in the early hours of Thursday. Both were produced before the court on charges of causing grievous hurt and violation of the Explosives and Arms Act. They have been remanded to 14 days in judicial custody.

Tension at Kadhinamkulam

A tense situation prevailed in the communally sensitive coastal area of Kadhinamkulam in the outskirts of the city following a dispute over a money transaction between two groups of people belonging to different communities.

The standoff occurred when one group demanded that a member of the opposing group pay up the money he had taken as loan.

A police team led by the Circle Inspector (Kazhakuttam), P. Reghu, rushed to the spot to diffuse the situation.
