This Day That Age
Charlie Chaplin told reporters in Paris on October 15 that he hoped to remake his 26-year-old film, "The Circus," and compose new music for it to prove his point that "talkies" should never have been introduced to the screen. "The great success which `Modern Times' is now having in Paris proves to me clearly that the cinema should never have started to talk," he said. The film, `Modern Times' is almost completely silent. In "The Circus," released on January 7, 1928, Chaplin plays the part of a tramp who becomes a circus clown.
