SALEM, OCT 15. In a major raid, the Salem city unit of the Prohibition Enforcement Wing (PEW) seized a large consignment of IMFL bottles estimated at Rs. 2 lakh transported illegally from Bangalore here today. According to police sources, a team of officials led by Inspector Chandrasekaran, on instructions from the Commissioner Abashkumar and Additional Deputy Commissioner Joshi Nirmal Kumar, carried out a vehicle check-up near Angammal colony in the city in the wee hours of today. On suspicion, they stopped a lorry from Karnataka, which contained about 1,500 IMFL bottles. Subsequently, the police raided a house at Angammal colony and seized more IMFL bottles from Karnataka. Three persons, including one Saravanan were arrested. Lorry, car and a two-wheeler, which were used for this clandestine operation, were seized.
