ERODE, OCT.15. The infrastructure facilities at the Institute of Road and Transport Technology (IRTT) Engineering college in Chitode run by the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporations would be expanded further, the Transport and Electricity Minister, R. Viswanathan, said here today. Laying the foundation for the auditorium to be constructed at a cost of Rs. 2 crore in the college, the Minister said the work in this connection would commence soon. He said an additional building for the girls hostel would also be constructed at a cost of Rs. 45 lakhs and a placement cell-campus interview hall at Rs. 20 lakhs. Following representation from students, the Minister said a browsing centre would also be set up.
Buses to college
The Minister also announced that with immediate effect buses would be operated from Erode to the college for the benefit of the day scholars. Presenting the awards to the best students and teachers, the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowment Minister, P.C. Ramasamy, said the IRTT, which stood 14th in the Anna University ranking, is now at the 10th position. He said the teachers post would be filled up soon at the colleges and higher secondary schools run by the HR and CE department. The Transport Commissioner and Special Commissioner, R. Karpoorasundara Pandian, presided. The Collector, D. Karthikeyan, the Rajya Sabha MP, N.R. Govindarajar, MLAs K.S. Thennarasu, K.S. Palanisamy, Selvi Murugesan, Sivagami Vincent, the SIDCO chairman, Sindhu Ravichandran, the Erode district panchayat council chairman, V.K. Chinnasamy, spoke. The Director of IRTT, S. Balashanmugam, welcomed, the Principal Earlier, Mr. Ramasamy inaugurated a water overhead tank at Karaiellapalayam near Elavamalai. He said after 18 years the Transport Corporations in the State are running under profit. He said because of the economic use of diesel and reduction in other expenses, the Corporations have saved Rs. 36 crore this year.
