Rs. 5.20-crore loans to be given to 1,270 persons

TIRUCHI, OCT. 15. The Government proposes to extend Rs. 5.20 crores in subsidy-linked loans this year to 1, 270 persons of the Scheduled Castes/Tribes through the Tamil Nadu Adi-Dravida Housing Development Corporation.

The Government has also planned to give specialised industrial training to 802 youths of these communities, the Collector, V. Pandian, has said in a statement.

Under the Chief Minister's Special Scheme, the Government has earmarked Rs. 2 crores for extending assistance to the SC/ST women for purchasing 2.50 acres of wetland, or five acres of dry land, land reclamation, creating irrigation facilities, deepening borewells and setting up dairy farms, broiler farm and horticulture garden. The assistance would include a 50 per cent subsidy.

Mr. Pandian said it was planned to sanction loans with a 30 per cent subsidy for launching industrial ventures, or for expanding industries. About 600 self-help groups would be given loans and assistance to the tune of Rs. 1.07 crores, including a subsidy of Rs. 52.66 lakhs. A sum of Rs. 8 lakhs had been allotted for giving industrial training to members of the SC and ST SHGs. About 1,130 SC women and 490 ST women would undergo the training.

A total of 312 unemployed youths, in the age group of 15-35, would be trained in innovative trades such motor rewinding, car driving, two-wheeler mechanism, diesel engine mechanism and mobile phone servicing. The duration of the training would be six months, and each of them would get a monthly stipend of Rs. 400. The Government had released Rs. 18 lakhs for the purpose.

Under various schemes of the Centre, Rs. 30 lakhs in subsidy-linked credit would be sanctioned to 50 persons. As many as 350 scavengers and their families would get loans to the tune of Rs. 1.75 crores, with a 50 per cent subsidy, he said.
