PUDUKOTTAI, OCT. 15. Speakers at the inauguration of a district-level science exhibition here on Thursday stressed the role of teachers in promoting scientific temper among students. They said scientific advances were essential to make the country competitive in the global market. Inaugurating the exhibition, the Collector, Jatendranath Swain, called for efforts to modernise farming through the latest technologies adopted in other parts of the world. The lack of scientific skills among farmers was affecting agricultural productivity. He said a thorough knowledge of science alone would help the youth gain firsthand information about the advances. The growth of a nation depended on its achievements in science and technology, Mr. Swain added. The Superintendent of Police, R. Arumugam, said science teachers make use of exhibits to help students understand various scientific concepts. The Chief Educational Officer, V.Rajarajeswari, said all schools conducted exhibitions, and 380 best exhibits prepared by students of 100 schools in the educational districts of Pudukottai and Aranthangi had been displayed in the district-level exhibition.
