TIRUNELVELI, OCT.15. Residents of Keezhapalayam under the Tenkasi municipality "have been forced" to depend on saline borewell water, owing to mixing up of sewage with the drinking water for the past few days. They expect an outbreak of water-borne diseases in their area in the next few days. The residents complained that municipal officials had not taken any action to solve the problem and said they would meet the Collector, Atul Anand, to explain the "official apathy." They alleged they had been getting contaminated water from the public tap and household water connections for the past few days. When the issue was taken up with the municipality officials, they reportedly told them that the problem would be rectified automatically, once the incessant drizzle stopped. The residents tried to meet the Commissioner, Kalimuthu, and the Chairperson, Chandra, to address their grievance, but in vain, as they were away in New Delhi to attend a training programme. When they informed the officials again about the situation, they reportedly told the residents that any action could be taken only after the commissioner and the chairman arrived Tenkasi from New Delhi.
