Pondicherry
By Our Staff Reporter
PONDICHERRY, OCT. 15. Doordarshan's free to air Direct To Home (DTH) platform will be launched shortly. It will start with 17 DD channels, programmes from 13 private channels and 20 DTH radio channels. The DTH platform requires a dish antenna, which can be mounted on the rooftops or on windowsills. There will be no recurring expenditure for the viewers. Ttest transmission of the channels is underway, according to T. Nalini, Station Engineer of the DDK here. All India Radio Pondicherry station engineer Geetha Rani told newsmen today that the DTH radio channel, a satellite service, is meant for listeners owning a TV set with DTH platform. This would go on stream soon. The 24-hour broadcast is not a local radio service but will cover the entire country as well as neighbouring countries. However, the broadcast is geared towards people speaking in regional languages, resident outside their language areas. Ms. Rani said the AIR recording studio here with high frequency digital equipment was available for rent at competitive rates.
