HYDERABAD, OCT. 15. The Andhra Pradesh Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Trade (APFCCT) has urged the State Government to postpone implementation of Value Added Tax (VAT) by one year, as the traders are still confused and need some time to understand the new tax structure. In a memorandum submitted to the Minister for Commercial Taxes, K. Ramakrishna , the president of APFCCT, A. Vijay Kumar, and other officers suggested holding of seminars to educate the traders on VAT. The federation also wanted the Government to immediately reconstitute the Sales Tax Advisory Committee for advising the Government on matters relating to policy and administration of Sales Tax. It said that the committee formed four years ago had not met even once. In another memorandum Mr. Vijay Kumar, who is also the president of Andhra Pradesh Textiles Association, urged the Minister not to bring textiles under the purview of VAT.
Problems explained
According to a press release issued here on Friday, Mr. Vijay Kumar explained to the Minister the problems that would be faced by textile traders if VAT was implemented. He urged the Government to continue with the existing system of levying Additional Excise Duty, which he felt was simple to follow for textile traders.
