Temple elephant big draw in festivities

By Our Staff Reporter

CUDDAPAH, OCT. 15. A temple elephant brought from Mysore which carried ancient scriptures belonging to Sri Vasavi Kanyaka Parameswari temple at Proddatur in a procession was a big draw in the Dasara Sarannava Rathri celebrations which began with religious fervour and gaiety in Cuddapah district on Friday.

The beautifully decorated pachyderm was followed by cultural troupes whose devotional songs rented the air during the procession in the main thoroughfares of Proddatur town. The Arya Vysya Sangham president, B. Ramamohana Rao, performed Ganapathi homam at the temple and later started two drinking water outlets in the main bazar and Sivalayam street in Proddatur town.

The Dasara celebrations also began with fervour at Sri Vijayadurga temple here, in which the presiding deity was attired in `Chandraghanta avatharam'. The presiding deities in the Ammavarisalas at Cuddapah, Badvel and Porumamilla were decorated as Rajarajeswari. The Dasara celebrations at Siddhaihgari Matham at Madumula in Brahmamgari Matham in the form of `Aradhanotsavam' also began today.
