CUDDAPAH, OCT. 15. The multi-purpose extension officers staged rasta roko at the ITI circle here on Friday, under the aegis of the CITU, demanding continuation of their services and regularisation. With the protest disrupting vehicles for over half an hour, the police arrested some protesters. Earlier, the CITU district general secretary, N. Ravisankar Reddy, decried the termination of the service of 275 contractual MPEOs in the district notwithstanding their service to the farmers. He criticised the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, for promising employment generation before elections, but removing MPEOs. He termed their removal as an anti-farmer measure. Stating that 2.10 lakh contract workers were engaged in 31 departments, Mr. Reddy urged the Government to give up plans to terminate contract workers. The MPEOs ensured enrolment of two lakh farmers in rythu mitra groups in the State, but were unceremoniously removed, he alleged. The SFI district president, Veerasekhar, secretary, T. Sunil, Panchayat Workers Union president, S. Siddhiramaiah, secretary, Kondaiah, Village Servants Association secretary, K. Penchalaiah, also participated.
