NEW DELHI, OCT. 15. The Delhi High Court today granted interim bail to Siddharth Vashishtha alias Manu Sharma in the Jessica Lal murder case in which the ramp model Jessica Lal was shot dead here on April 30, 1999. Asking the trial court concerned to enlarge the accused on bail on his submitting a personal bond of Rs. 50,000 with one surety of a like amount, Justice B.N. Chaturvedi allowed submission by counsel for the accused, Ram Jethmalani, that the conduct of his client had been to the satisfaction of the Court whenever he was released on interim bail in the past. Justice J.D. Kapoor of the High Court had in November last year cancelled his interim bail on an apprehension that his being on interim bail might have caused the disappearance of a prosecution witness in the case. In the meanwhile, the prosecution failed to trace the witness and ultimately informed the trial court that it would not examine him, as he was untraceable. The case has reached the penultimate stage of the trial after the prosecution finished the recording of the statements of prosecution witnesses this past August. The Additional Sessions Judge, S.N. Dhingra, is at present recording the statement of the accused persons.
