Leko in the van

BRISSAGO (SWITZERLAND), OCT. 15. Hungary's Peter Leko needs just one more point to take the World classical chess title from Vladimir Kramnik of Russia. He is leading the 14-game match 6.5-5.5 after the 12th game ended in a draw here on Thursday night.

Leko, who employed Caro-Kann Defence, defended well to take half-a-point off the champion after 34 moves. The Hungarian bounced back admirably from an inferior position. He did so well that he was better in the final position, two pawns up. He proposed a draw straight after offering to swap the queens.
