Strikers storm into Raj Bhavan

By Our Staff Correspondent

DEHRA DUN, OCT. 15. Activists demanding establishment of the permanent Capital of Uttaranchal at Gairsen gatecrashed into the Capital Identification Commission office in Raj Bhavan annexe here today, asked the Chairman, Justice Virendra Dixit, to move out of the building and put a lock on the main door.

The activists, belonging to the various action groups supported by the Uttarakhand Mahila Manch, Uttarakhand Sanyukt Sangharsh Morcha and the Uttarakhand Kranti Dal (D), raised slogans against the Chief Minister and threatened that they would not allow the Commission to function "as it had been set up to keep the issue lingering till the next Assembly elections".

Meanwhile, the activists are also staging relay fasts in Dehra Dun and Haldwani besides the indefinite fasts at Gairsen.

The Uttaranchal Health Minister, Tilak Raj Behad, meanwhile, has sprung a surprise by claiming mass support for establishment of the permanent capital in Dehra Dun, Rishikesh or Ramnagar-Kashipur area in the foothills of the Kumaon region.
